U11s v Bridlington match report
11 Jul by Neil hambly
Sutton U11s welcomed Bridlington U11s down to the SCG on a hot mid summers eve. A packed and rowdy crowd were poised and ready for some high standard cricket.
In the absence of Jonny B I’m standing in as Sports Reporter this week (Phil btw), Paul Ollett stepped in for a stint at square leg, with me promising to take control of the 2nd half.
Sutton started well with Sam O and Zack trying there hardest to send the ball into orbit with Zack in particular hitting a nice 4 👍.
Up stepped Freddy and Elliott. Both batted well until there 3rd over when they were unfortunately pegged back by some good bowling and ended up getting out twice.
Next in was Chloe D and Laurie. Both steadied the ship and tried to hit the ball without getting out. Its nice to see kids who value their wicket.
2 quick wickets looked to have pegged Josh and Rose back but both came flying back at the bowling attack and finished strong.
The last pair was Sam and Araav both hit classy fours before being pegged back in the 19th over losing 1 wicket.
Sutton ended with a score of 142 from their 20 overs losing 5 wickets.
Game on.
Bridlington came out strong and continued throughout their innings and always seemed to be ontop of the game.
Even when Chloe D and Zack both had opportunities for hat tricks in the match. Wickets were also taken by Laurie, Elliott, Sam R, Sam O and Araav
Bridlington ended the match on 178 from their 20 overs, losing 9 wickets along the way.
Positives to take away from the game, we genuinely ball wicket taking balls, we are difficult to get out and we are a together team. Rose kept very well, stopping lots.of.leg side balls and Sam O also kept well especially to Sam R and Araav
Things to work on are bowling accuracy, we bowled 15 wides to Bridlingtons 8. We must punish the balls we can hit, just putting our bat there isnt enough. We must field properly and not stop the ball with our feet. I promise you it will hurt less hitting your hand than your ankle.
Still all round a good performance well done Sutton U11s
