U13s v Beverley
24 Jul by Jon Boyton
Our U13s played their final fixture of the season at Beverley in very wet conditions last night.
We welcomed Felix into the team for his Sutton debut, along with Harry and Laurie moving up from U11s to play U13s for the first time. We also welcomed Oliver H back after he helped the team earlier in the season.
Having winning the toss and choosing to bowl, Sutton were excellent in the field with tight fielding, excellent catches and 11 wickets in total. Felix, Caleb and Ben all got two wickets, with Harry, Oliver, Kurtis and Aarav all getting one.
The rain made an appearance in our last over but we managed to hold Beverley to a good total to chase.
The Beverley coach decided they wanted to complete the game on a wicket that cut up very quickly. The batters struggled to pick out the Beverley bowling which at times became a little wayward with the wet ball. They also found it difficult to hit the heavy ball off the bat.
Our players gave it a really good go but we lost wickets at key times in the game (like the last ball before changing pairs) and ended agonisingly close with only 5 runs difference.
It wasn’t a high scoring game with Felix (9) and Ben (10) being our highest scorers.
The team were disappointed with last night’s result but the season has been one of huge successes. We have developed from a team that were looking for any type of win last season to a strong team with 5 wins from 8 games and giving the strongest teams in the league difficult games.
Coaching this team has been a pleasure – they listen, work hard to improve their own skills, work as a team and have commitment. We has shown in the huge progress they have all made
Lastly, a massive thank you to all the parents and family members who travel to the different venues, give up their time and encourage every player. I believe we have the loudest support in East Yorkshire this season!😂
